A silicone additive in a dry masterbatch pellet form is available from Dow Corning Corp. Designed for use in acetal systems, the Dow Corning MB40-006 Silicone Masterbatch is a 40 percent dispersion of an ultra-high molecular weight silicone in an acetal copolymer.
At levels of 0.5 to 2.5 percent in acetal systems, the product offers improved processing and resin flow characteristics, such as faster throughput, better mold filling, internal lubrication and mold release, and reduced extruder torque and molded part warpage. At higher levels, the masterbatch can enhance the surface properties of acetal products, such as plastic gears, pulleys, and bushings.
No specialized equipment is required and pellets can be added during compounding in either single- or twin-screw extruders or at the feed hopper during injection molding or extrusion.
