If laughter truly is the best medicine, the young patients at Children’s Hospital in Richmond, Va. should be feeling better now that a bland cafeteria wall has been replaced with a colourful, aquatic-themed “wave wall” manufactured from ACRYLITE FF acrylic sheet from Degussa’s Cyro Industries.

Fabricated with 0.25-inch thick sheets made from the ACRYLITE FF material, the walls were custom cut, routed into assorted wave patterns and connected at varying distances to create the appearance of three-dimensional, overlapping waves. The vibrant shades in which the acrylic is available — red, blue, coral, yellow, gold, green and teal — helped further bring the ocean illusion to life.

“The polycarbonate material that we originally considered for this project would not have been able to provide such intense colour options,” said Peter Winters, owner of Presentation Resource, a Richmond-based design firm involved in the project. “[And] the ACRYLITE FF sheet is easy to cut, rout and mount, which helped turn the wave wall design into reality.”
