Elf Atochem North America Inc. has launched a unique impact acrylic resin for light cover, refractor and lens applications. Called Plexiglas Frosted acrylic, the new resin may be used in extrusion, profile and other molding processes to produce two-sided, frosted, textured surfaces.

The new resin offers unusually high luminous transmission coupled with excellent hiding power. In lighting products made with Plexiglas Frosted acrylic resin the diffusion mechanism exists throughout the structure and on all surfaces. Tiny beads within the plastic scatter incoming light, but mostly in the forward direction, maximizing optical efficiency. As a result, the resin provides about 84 percent light transmission, yet the scattering effect raises haze values to 95 percent or more.
