Frank Schmidt, son of ABC Group’s founder and president/CEO Mike Schmidt, passed away in Toronto on December 3, 2001 at the age of 48. Schmidt died peacefully after a lengthy illness, according to the family.
Schmidt was executive vice president at the company. He was born in Bremerhaven, Germany and began working for ABC Group in 1974, when the company was founded. Prior to this he worked for one of the firm’s predecessor companies, ABC Plastic Moulding.
Schmidt was respected in the company for his knowledge of blow molding technology, and for having worked his way up through the shop floor and production. He was promoted to plant manager in 1978, and to general manager in 1985, assuming responsibility for the operations of three companies within ABC Group. He is a member of the Canadian Plastics Pioneers Quarter Century Club. He leaves wife Susanne, and children Michael (16), Christopher (14), Katrina (12) and Alexander (8).
