Calgary-based Nova Chemicals Corporation is donating $200,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help victims of wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alberta

In a May 5 statement, Nova also promised to match employee donations to the Canadian Red Cross of up to $50,000.

“We send our thoughts and prayers to all of the impacted families, friends, co-workers and first responders impacted,” the statement said.

Close to 100,000 people have been evacuated from the Fort McMurray area as a result of wildfires that now cover almost 230,000 acres. Fire officials say the Fort McMurray wildfire is still spreading and is so massive that only a significant amount of rain can bring it under control.
