Material supplier A. Schulman Inc. is adding a manufacturing line to its plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil to meet increased demand for engineered plastics.

The line, which is expected to be in place by November, will boost the site’s overall annual production capacity by 8 million to 10 million pounds, the company said in a press release, and will be used to make additive concentrates and compounds based on engineering resins.

The plant was acquired last year when Schulman bought Mash Compostos Plasticos.

According to Joseph Gingo, the Fairlawn, Ohio-based company’s chairman, president and CEO, the recent growth it attributable to “favorable volume stemming from steady improvement in customer demand, and the mix effect as we continue to focus on more profitable businesses.”

Gingo also said Brazilian consumers were demanding more plastics for packaging, consumer goods and transportation products.
