Veka Inc. announced plans to shutter its Veka Canada window and door profile extrusion operations in Edmonton, Alta.

The facility employs about 60 workers.

The company plans to transfer some of their tooling and extrusion lines to its plants in Fombell and Reno, Nev. Edmonton will retain a warehousing operation, which will be supplied by those two plants. According to company officials, Veka will keep some of its machinery in Edmonton to be ready in the event of an upturn in the market.

“Veka Canada has been a solid performer over the years, but given the current weak demand, it is the responsible thing to do,” said Veka President Walter Stucky, in a news release. “We will continue to closely monitor the economic situation and as conditions improve, we hope to again be producing out of the Edmonton facility.”
