Dallas, Tex.-based window manufacturer Atrium Cos. Inc. has announced its acquisition of St. Thomas, Ont. window maker and extruder North Star Vinyl Windows and Doors.

North Star operates a 223,000 square foot manufacturing facility in St. Thomas where it produces a complete line of energy-efficient vinyl windows and patio doors. The acquired company sells 90 per cent of its volume to dealers in Canada, and 10 per cent to dealers in the US.

“Joining forces with Atrium allows us the opportunity to take North Star to the next level,” said North Star’s president Jim Banman in a press release. “It’s the right move at the right time for both sides.”

North Star is vertically integrated, and owns and operates its own vinyl extrusion lines under the name of North Star Profile Extrusions. Its extrusion capability also enables the company to produce window systems for outside manufacturing customers, helping add to the bottom line.

“North Star makes high quality products that are a perfect fit within the Atrium family of brands, and Atrium will benefit from North Star’s highly refined production system for producing replacement and new construction windows,” explained Atrium president and CEO Greg Flaherty. “These are products that offer many of the upscale product features that our customers love, and we’re proud that they’ll now be more widely available.

“North Star will benefit from Atrium’s size, which will provide purchasing synergies, as well as to our broad product lines.”

Atrium’s portfolio of brands also includes Superior Windows, Thermal Industries, Danvid Door and Window, HR Windows, Champion Window and Darby Door.
