Rohm and Haas buys Kureha’s additives business

Specialty chemical and polymer producer Rohm and Haas has purchased the global plastics additives business of Kureha Chemical Industry Company Ltd. of Japan for US$65.5 million. According to a press release, the purchase agreement specifies that Rohm and Haas will acquire Kureha’s commercial operations throughout the Asia-Pacific region and other areas, along with manufacturing facilities and laboratories in Singapore. Closing will occur by year end. The transaction will increase the revenue of Rohm and Haas’s plastics additives business by approximately US$70 million.
“This acquisition certainly strengthens our position in the Asia-Pacific region, and gives us a strong manufacturing base in Singapore,” said Raj L. Gupta, chairman and CEO of Rohm and Haas.
