Reynolds Food Packaging has announced that it will close its manufacturing plant in Laval, Que. in the fourth quarter of this year.

The thermoforming plant, which employs approximately 120 people, manufactures packaging products for the supermarket, food processor and foodservice market segments.

“The decision to close this plant was very difficult,” said Reynolds Food Packaging – Canada’s general manager. “Despite the outstanding efforts of our work force, the competitiveness and demands of the market cannot support this facility. This action will better position Reynolds Food Packaging to serve our customers and plan for future growth.”

The company said it would continue to maintain a distribution centre and administrative offices in Laval. Additionally, it will continue to manufacture products at its Summerstown, Ont. facility.
