Pipe manufacturer Rehau Industries Inc. has closed its plant in Prescott, Ont. as part of the company’s strategic shift from production and sale of commodity products.
The closure will leave 40 people out of work.
Production ended at the plant as of Nov. 1, the company based, in Leesburg, Va., announced in press release.
“Despite this difficult decision, we remain prideful of the work we’ve accomplished in the pipe industry, and thank our many long-term, loyal employees for their service over the past 38 years,” said Ralf Helmold, Prescott plant manager for Rehau. “We are doing everything we can to ensure the smoothest possible transition, and have already started working with local community and county officials to help our employees find work in a most expeditious manner.”
A “limited” staff will remain at the plant through March 31, 2009 to oversee residual inventory management-related logistics, the press release stated.
