The 30-day public consultation review period for the development of a Canadian standard for compostable plastic bags is entering its final week. Upon finalization, the new document will become the Canadian standard for product performance for compostable bag manufacturers.

The proposed certification is being led by the Bureau de normalisation du Quebec, with support from several companies, the Composting Council of Canada, and a number of provinces.

A copy of the proposal can be found here, and input must be sent by June 10, 2007. Visit the Composting Council of Canada website for the draft protocol and BNQ contact information.
