Brasilplast, the largest plastics trade fair in Latin America, was launched March 10 by the president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Security measures for Lulas appearance delayed the start of the show, but from then the show gained momentum all week.
The show ran March 10 to 14, with expected attendance of 60,000.
Brazilian machinery manufacturer Romi introduced a new all-electric molding machine and a high-speed molding system at the show.
Abiplast, the Brazilian plastics industry association, estimates US$6.8 billion will be invested by the countrys industry for machinery, molds and other fixed assets between now and 2008.
The ultimate aim, says Merheg Cachun, president of Abiplast, is to increase the domestic industrys exports, including those of manufactured plastic products.
