Plastic film maker and recycler Polykar Inc. has been assigned the highest possible rating of AA+ in the Brand Reputation through Compliance Global Standard (BRCGS) accreditation for packaging materials Issue 6.
The BRCGS accreditation is globally recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), ensuring the food safety, quality, legality, and authenticity of products manufactured at certified sites. Adopted by over 22,000 sites in more than 130 countries, the standard is accepted by 70 per cent of the top 10 global retailers, 60 per cent of the top 10 quick-service restaurants, and 50 per cent of the top 25 manufacturers.
Headquartered in Saint-Laurent, Que., Polykar makes film converted by other companies as well as its own finished goods, including garbage bags, industrial packaging, and food packaging. Polykar also sells recycled PE resin to other manufacturers.
In a news release, Polykar officials said the AA+ rating was secured during an unannounced on-site audit at both of its locations in Saint-Laurent.
“BRCGS is a top-tier accreditation that epitomizes our commitment to delivering excellence and greater confidence to our clients,” Polykar president and CEO Amir Karim said. “Achieving this distinction is a testament to the dedication and passion of our entire team for food packaging safety and quality. This certification acknowledges our hard work and strengthens our resolve to meet the growing demand for environmentally sustainable products in the food packaging industry.”
