The $100-million Evergreen Nylon Recycling plant located in Augusta, GA has ceased operations. High operating costs coupled with low caprolactam prices are being cited as the reasons for the closing of nylon 6 recycling joint venture between Honeywell International and DSM Chemicals. The plant, which was opened early in 2000, was designed to generate about 90 million pounds per year of caprolactam from 180 million pounds per year of carpet. At the time of closing, the plant was operating at only about 60 percent of its capacity.
