Nova Chemicals Corporation’s Corunna, Ont., manufacturing facility has returned to normal operations and production rates following a temporary shutdown that was annouced on June 21, 2006.
The interruption was the result of the accidental activation of a process shutdown switch, apparently caused by a contractor employee installing structural steel platforms. The facility sustained minor damage during the incident.
The production interruption and associated loss of sales is expected to reduce Nova Chemical’s second-quarter net income by approximately U.S. $8 million, with an additional third-quarter impact of up to U.S. $3 million.
Nova Chemicals, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Penn., manufactures polymers and other commodity plastics chemicals.
