Jeffrey Lipton, the CEO of Calgary, Alta.-based materials manufacturer Nova Chemicals Corp., has announced his intentions to retire effective May 1, 2009.
Lipton’s decision comes after nearly 15 years at the company, with more than ten years as the company’s CEO. He will remain as a member of the company’s board of directors until their next annual meeting, the company said.
“It has been a privilege to lead Nova Chemicals during its first decade,” said Lipton in a statement.
Nova’s board of directors has appointed Christopher Pappas, who currently serves as the president and COO of the company, as president and CEO effective May 1, 2009. Pappas has been with the company since 2000, and was appointed to his current post at the beginning of the year.
“On behalf of Nova Chemicals and the board, I would like to thank Jeff for his exceptional leadership of our company and substantial contributions to the industry,” said board chairman James Stanford. “We are pleased to have someone of Chris’ caliber ready to step in and lead the company.”
