Molder launches in-house design affiliate

Custom injection molder Plastmade Industries (Mississauga, ON) has launched a new in-house product design and development firm, LR Design, Inc. The firm, with offices within the premises of Plastmade’s 42,000 sq. ft. plant, is headed by Gary Pasternak. Pasternak, who was previously with a design consulting firm, has 15 years design experience working with a wide range of markets and materials.
Pasternak says LR will provide customers with a vertically integrated product design and development service, from concept design to prototyping to low- and high-volume manufacturing.
“A lot of my customers are on the R&D side and typically don’t have their own production resources,” Pasternak says. “It’s always nice to be able to say manufacturing is part of what you do.”
Pasternak says LR is a separate business division with a mandate to develop new products and customers in a variety of industries, including medical, business and industrial equipment, telecommunications, furniture, and sporting goods.
“The ownership of Plastmade has invested in LR,” Pasternak says. “If some of our design business spins off into molding business for Plastmade, it’s a win-win.”
He says the company can help customers design parts from metal as well as plastic, using a variety of manufacturing processes.
