Mega Bloks looks to make bigger splash in Europe (February 28, 2005)

Construction toy maker Mega Bloks Inc. has announced it is planning a major market expansion into Italy and Germany later this year. The announcement coincided with the release of the company’s lower fourth-quarter results. The Montreal-based company’s fourth-quarter profit was $11.5 million, down from $16.3 million a year earlier. Executives attributed the decline to a slump in sales of boys’ toys, higher resin prices and a higher dollar.
Mega Bloks is already selling its product in France, Britain and Spain. Germany represents a construction toy market of $250 million, the world’s second largest after the United States.
