Montreal-based Mega Blocks Inc. got clearance to compete directly with its main competitor, Lego AG, in the lucrative German toy market after a German court struck down a law protecting the Danish company from competition in Germany. The German Federal Court of Justice abolished the law which prevented other toy manufacturers from selling interlocking plastic mini-bricks similar to those made by Lego. The decision was handed down last week.
"We expect this decision to benefit Mega Blocks in years to come," said Marc Bertrand, president and chief executive, in a release.
Germany is the world’s second largest construction toy market, with sales of about $250 million.
