Atofina Petrochemicals Inc. has performed commercial-scale production of its Finacene polypropylene, an ethylene-propylene random copolymer resin produced using Atofina’s proprietary metallocene catalyst technology.
The resins range in melting point from 112 to 139 C with melt flow rates from 2.5 to 8 g/10 min. Atofina believes this commercial production of an ethylene-propylene random pelletized co-polymer having a melting point of 112 C is the first in the world.
The Finacene resins are said to have excellent optical properties, improved organoleptics, improved stiffness over Ziegler-Natta randoms, low heat seal initiation temperatures for high performance films, and excellent hot tack.
Target markets include oriented film heat seal applications, cast film markets, skin layer constructions and food cooking/retort applications.
In Canada, Atofina polypropylene and Finaprene SBS elastomers are now available from Atofina Canada Inc. (Oakville, ON).
