K Show Report: Cincinnati Extrusion coming to U.S.

SMS Plastics Technology’s purchase of Cincinnati Extrusion three years ago from Milacron came with a caveat. SMS could sell the company’s products in North America but not manufacture here until 2005. As the clause in the purchase contract is about to expire, SMS has made a decision to open a facility near Cincinnati, OH, according to SMS public relations director Ingrid Bergman.
“Cincinnati Extrusion will enter the U.S. market as of Jan. 1, 2005,” said Bergman. “We have already hired staff and are looking to expand our penetration of the North American market with this visible presence.”
The SMS Plastics Technology group of companies includes Battenfeld, Battenfled Gloucester, and American Maplan.
