A new technology generating plenty of interest at Engels stand is called Exjection, a hybrid process of injection molding and extrusion that offers unique design freedom in producing long, thin-wall plastic profiles.
In contrast to standard injection molding, during the Exjection process the nozzle is held stationary while the tool moves. In a demonstration at the K-2007 show, the tool was moving vertically on an Engel 55-ton e-motion all-electric machine for the manufacture of parts up to one metre long. In other configurations, the tool moves horizontally and parts up to three meters long may be produced, according to Engel.
The company developed the process in partnership with Austrian polymer engineering company I.B. Steiner, which holds a patent in the technology.
