Que.-based manufacturer IPL Inc. has announced that it has been awarded a contract to manufacture and distribute wheeled carts for recyclable material collection for the City of Calgary. The company said the value of the contract exceeds $15 million.

Deliveries of the carts will begin this month, and continue until early in 2009. IPL will supply 320,000 240-litre carts, and provide additional carts over a ten-year period to take Calgary’s burgeoning population into account. The company said the carts are made of recycled plastics, and will be fully recyclable at the end of their life.

“IPL is proud to have established a solid partnership with the City of Calgary to carry out the largest environmental mandate in our history in Western Canada,” said IPL president and CEO Serge Bragdon. “The complexity of the cart designed for this contract exemplifies IPL’s leadership in the development of innovative technical solutions and further demonstrates the foremost position our products occupy in the environment sector across the country.”
