Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. has announced plans for layoffs at its Buffalo, N.Y., spare parts distribution facility.
The Bolton, Ont.-based company will outsource Buffalo’s warehousing and distribution functions to an undisclosed third-party logistics company, leading to the elimination of 32 jobs by Oct. 30, according to a report in the Buffalo News.
More than 20 employees will continue to work at the facility for order desk and inventory management.
Husky opened the Buffalo operation in 1996 partly to avoid customs delays for parts crossing the Canada/U.S. border. The site is near Buffalo’s airport.
The cutback is “a strategic decision that will help us to better serve our customers,” according to Husky.
