Fifty-nine percent of the 66 hotels on the official housing list for NPE2009 visitors have lowered their rates by an average of 14 per cent.

According to the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI), which produces the show, the discounts apply retroactively to those who have already made their reservations as well as to those who have yet to do so.

The deadline for advance reservations is May 14.

NPE2009 will take place June 22-26, 2009 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

The rate reductions were negotiated on a hotel-by-hotel basis, at the behest of SPI, by Expovision, official housing contractor for NPE2009. Of the 66 hotels listed, 39 agreed to lower their rates. “The reduction of 14 per cent represented a US$37 per night reduction to US$226 from an average room rate of US$263,” said Gene Sanders, SPI vice president of trade shows. “The hotel discounts are another in a series of cost-savings for exhibitors and attendees in the Stimulus Package developed by SPI to help make NPE2009 participation more affordable.”
