Atlanta-based vinyl compound manufacturer Georgia Gulf Corporation will close RoyalGroup Technologies Ltd.‘s Winnipeg, Manitoba window and door profile extrusion facility later this year.
According to the company, it plans to transfer extrusion operations currently at the Winnipeg facility to other Royal Group Technologies profile extrusion plants. Headquartered in Woodbridge, Ont. Royal Group Technologies’ additional window and door profile extrusion plants are located in Toronto; Montreal; Pittsburgh, Pa.; Reno, Nev.; Bristol, Tenn.; and Seattle Wash.
“Customers purchasing window and door profiles from our Winnipeg facility will be better served by our other facilities, as these plants house the latest in extrusion technology,” said Bill Doherty, Georgia Gulf’s Vice President of Custom Products.
Georgia Gulf acquired Royal Group in October of 2006 for US$1.54 billion. Royal Group Technologies had reported a net loss of CDN$32 million for the second quarter of that year.
Georgia Gulf manufactures the raw material that Royal Group Technologies extrudes into door and window frames and outdoor furniture.
