Schaffhausen, Switzerland-based Georg Fischer Ltd. is acquiring the business activities of Brampton, Ont.-based Alfa Plastics Inc., the company announced last week.

Alfa is a distributor of plastic pipes, fittings and valves for water treatment, chemical processes and other industrial applications. According to Georg Fischer, the Canadian firm had 20 employees and annual sales of over $4.2 million.

“In our over 30 years of business in the Canadian plastics industry we have always strived to provide our customers with high quality service,” said Alfa Plastics president Gert Jungeblut in a letter to customers and suppliers. “The opportunity to take this to higher level of excellence [sic] has presented itself now.”

He explained that Alfa has been a distributor of +GF+ products for over 20 years, and said the opportunity would benefit everyone. The company will be renamed to Georg Fischer Piping Systems Ltd., and take on the responsibility of managing the Piping Systems activities in Canada.

According to the new parent company, Alfa Plastics will be transformed into a wholly owned sales, service and stocking point for its Canadian customers. Additionally, it will provide a platform to provide current Canadian utility distributors with enhanced service and support on products from the recently acquired Oklahoma-based Central Plastics Company.

The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2008.
