EDS has been selected by Ford Motor Company to supply and integrate its Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software technologies, Teamcenter(R), NX, and E-factory(TM), into the automaker’s systems environment worldwide.
The long-term contract calls for the upgrade of I-deas(R) software to EDS’ next generation NX CAD software and the expansion of Teamcenter applications, as well as digital manufacturing and visualization.
Under the expanded contract EDS PLM Solutions (Plano, TX)will provide the foundation for integration and collaboration of the global virtual product creation environment. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“Standardizing on EDS’ Teamcenter software will provide the avenue for Ford to achieve next-generation bill of material management,” said Chuck Grindstaff, President, EDS PLM R&D.
The contract also firms EDS’ position in the global automotive community. Tony Affuso, president of EDS PLM Solutions, comments: “This cements our leadership position in the automotive market, with over 150,000 seats deployed at the top 20 global OEMs and well over twice that amount in the global supplier community. This gives us greater than a 50 percent share of the PLM seats currently in production in the automotive market.”
