Mold component and technology supplier, D-M-E Company has announced that it will close its Monterey Park, CA mold base production facility and shift the work handled by that plant to the company’s other facilities located in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Windsor, ON. According to a press release, the close of the Monterey Park facility, scheduled for sometime in the first quarter of 2003, will coincide with the opening of a new West Coast distribution center. The distribution center will be used to provide next-day delivery to D-M-E customers in the western U.S.
Roughly 55 % of the mold base production of the company’s Monterey Park facility is delivered to customers east of the Rocky Mountains. D-M-E, a subsidiary of Milacron Inc., anticipates cost savings for shipping product to East Coast customers; as well plans on adding 20 jobs at the operations acquiring the closed facility’s production. A total of 12 jobs will be lost at the Monterey Park plant when it is closed.
