When the Council of International Plastics Association Directors (CIPAD) meets again at the K show in October, Serge Lavoie will lead the group as secretary general. Lavoie is president and CEO of the Canadian Plastics Industry Association (Mississauga, ON).Lavoie says the involvement with CIPAD is "very valuable, because you get a sense of industry trends that might come to your shores." The meetings are geared to information sharing, allowing the international representatives to compare notes on industry challenges and responses in different countries.CIPAD met most recently at Chinaplas in early July. Members heard reports from representatives of the various sectors of China’s plastics industry. Other subjects that were of particular interest to the group were plastics and the environment, and energy recovery from plastic waste. These two issues will be discussed further at the October meeting.
