The Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA) will host its annual general meeting and town hall meeting on Wednesday, May 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Westin Bristol Place Hotel in Toronto, Ont.

The meeting will convene with comments from Dave Birkby, who serves as the chair of the CPIA board. Once the business meeting ends, attendees will hear several presentations from different perspectives on the challenges facing our industry today.

The event will include plastics industry financial results for the first quarter of 2008 from Bill Empey of Prism Economics and Analysis; highlights of the current federal and provincial political/regulatory issues confronting our industry from Charles Bird of Earnscliffe Government Affairs’ Ontario office; details about current plastics regulatory issues from CPIA vice president of environment, health and safety Cathy Cirko; and a session on industry responses moderated by CPIA president and CEO Serge Lavoie.

As it traditionally does, the AGM will end with a reception at 5:30 p.m., which will lead in to the Annual Awards Banquet. This year’s ceremony will recognize Leader of the Year Sajjad Ebrahim of Brampton, Ont.-based Par-Pak Ltd., as well as the 2008 Lifetime Achievement and Canplast Awards recipients.
