Global demand for plastics processing machinery will increase 3.5 percent per year to $18.8 billion in 2009, according to a recent report from the Freedonia Group.
The “World Plastics Processing Machinery” study indicated China will record the largest gains of any national market. Sales are also expected to be strong in India and Russia, as well as in lower-volume markets like Turkey, the Czech Republic and Iran.
Demand in these and other developing countries will be stimulated by healthy economic growth, ongoing industrialization and rising personal incomes, leading to above-average increases in plastics product consumption, processing activity and associated equipment sales.
Extrusion equipment will outperform other product types as advances are driven by rising world construction activity, boosting demand for extruded products such as pipe and siding, and supported by improvements in extruder technology.
