In celebration of the holiday season, CanPlastics TV is taking a look at the recent growth in the market for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) wine bottles.
We speak with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), a retailer that has been encouraging its suppliers to look at alternative packaging. According to spokesperson Chris Layton, PET wine bottles, which were only introduced in 2006, have been well-received by consumers.
We also speak with a homegrown manufacturer that has found major success in this market. Mississauga, Ont.-based MPI Packaging Inc. is the only company providing monolayer PET bottles for wine brand owners in North America, according to company president Ron O’Brien.
Find out about this growing and “fruitful” niche market in a special holiday episode of CanPlastics TV. You can watch this episode by clicking here, or by visiting the “Multimedia Centre” on our homepage.
