Interest in the latest technology is sparking resurgence in the Canadian injection molding machine market, according to one machine manufacturer.
"The last couple of months the Canadian market has been very good," says Walter Jungwirth, president of Engel Canada. "Canadian companies are looking for the edge in technology."
Jungwirth says injection molders are expressing more interest in advanced machine controls, robotics, multi-shot molding and other machine features that reduce downtime and optimize productivity. Jungwirth believes this interest in upgrading is strongly related to the recent surge in the dollar, as many molders have delayed new machine purchases with the relatively low purchasing power of the loonie.
"When it comes to machine technology, North America is still behind Europe. We have to catch up."
