Bankrupt auto parts supplier Plastech Engineered Products Inc. has announced that it will shutter its Leamington, Ont. facility later this month.
Although the company hasn’t filed for bankruptcy in Canada, the company entered Chapter 11 earlier this year in the U.S. The closure of the 18-year-old facility in Leamington will eliminate more than 300 jobs.
Rising energy costs were blamed for the decision, in addition to the supplier’s disputes with its customers. In February, Chrysler LLC unsuccessfully tried to move its proprietary molds and dies out of Plastech’s plants.
At the time, Plastech’s bankruptcy had forced Chrysler to temporarily idle four assembly plants and shut down one shift at another.
