Aseptic carton recycling wins award (May 23, 2001)

The Recycling Council of Ontario presented its Outstanding Sustainable Technology Award to Atlantic Packaging Products Ltd. and Tetra Pak Canada Inc. for their hydrapulping process for recycling aseptic cartons.
This award recognizes new or emerging technologies that will improve management of resources and minimize environmental impacts during production or consumption of goods.
The hydrapulper at Atlantic Packaging’s Scarborough, ON location is the first of its kind in North America to reclaim the paperboard fibres, aluminum and polyethylene from the used packages (see Canadian Plastics, Jan. 2001). The polyethylene is directed to plastics recyclers, while Atlantic Packaging converts the paper fibre into tissue products.
