Albis Plastics has announced it intends to close its Canadian compounding facility in Pickering, ON due to a significant downturn in its toll compounding activities. Albis Plastics, headquartered in Houston, TX, will fulfill all its North American customers’ requirements from its compounding facilities in Houston.
The Canadian plant was opened in 1979 to service local toll compounding customers.
"The slowdown in the North American economy caused a reduction in demand for tolling services and this in turn created an excess capacity situation which we will not be able to full in the foreseeable future," said Stephen Gill, president, Albis Plastics Corp.
"We have sufficient capacity to meet all our customers’ needs and plenty of room for expansion at the Houston location."
Albis Plastics achieved growth of 10% for its compounding and distribution activities in 2001, and will be adding 15 sales people in 2002.
