Akron, Ohio-based A. Schulman Inc. announced the launch of a new business with a product line made to offer customers in automotive and other markets cost-effective, high-performance alternatives to existing plastic and film materials that are painted and coloured.
The Invision line is a layered, coloured plastic sheet that can be molded into such parts as rocker panels or bumpers. The product is made to eliminate several steps in the manufacturing process for customers according to the company.
Invision consists of layers of ionomer that is supposed to eliminate capital and environmental costs associated with paint systems. Invision removes multiple steps from the manufacturing process because the resulting sheet can be placed directly onto a mold to produce finished automotive parts. According to the company, Invision can be used for other applications, such as parts for heavy trucks, recreational vehicles and lawn and garden equipment.
