Canadian auto parts supplier Magna International Inc. is opening a plant in Phoenix, Ariz, to make parts for solar panels.
The Aurora, Ont.-based company’s Cosma International unit will open a 166,000- square-foot building by the end of the year to make structures, components and systems for the photovoltaic, or solar-panel, market.
The new plant, which be named Cosma Power Systems, will employ between 50 and 60 full-time workers, Magna said.
Cosma International president Horst Prelog said the company is applying its 50-plus years of expertise to better serve the renewable energy industry.
“We have manufacturing know-how and program management expertise that is highly sought by other industries,” Prelog said.
