Blown film supplier Copol International of North Sydney, N.S., has won their fourth Nova Scotia export achievement award from Nova Scotia Business Inc. for its polypropylene film used in numerous flexible packaging applications.

Distributed in countries around the world, the film is used for bread bags, textile bags and the packages socks are sold in. In 16 years of operation, the company has sold over 140 million pounds of the product, according to general manager Dave Sawler. “About 70 per cent of our business is exported to the United States but also Europe and, more recently, to South America,” he said.

“We wouldn’t be able to achieve this without the staff,” said Sawler about the company’s 55 employees, 47 of whom work at the North Sydney plant. “They are just so dedicated, committed to the business. They are truly our number one asset as far as the business is concerned.”

The export achievement award was handed out Oct. 21 during the 19th annual Excellence in Business Awards presented by the Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce.
