German film producer The Treofan Group collected the Best Bioplastics Processor 2006 award for the development and capabilities of its Biophan polylactic acid (PLA) film business at the first ever Bioplastics Awards ceremony held in Frankfurt, Germany.
More than 100 key bioplastics producers and end-users attended the event, which took place on Dec. 6.
Among other winners, UK retail group Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd. was given the Best Bioplastics Retailer 2006 award as a result of its recently announced move to bioplastics for 500 product lines; and biodegradable packaging manufacturer Biobag International won the Best Bioplastics Marketing Initiative award for its brand building program.
In addition, Italian biodegradable development company Novamont‘s general manager Catia Bastioli collected a special award for personal contribution to the bioplastics industry for her work inside and outside of Novamont in developing knowledge, standards and infrastructure around biopolymers.
Launched by European Plastics News to recognize innovation and success in the bioplastics marketplace, the Bioplastics Awards were judged by an international panel of experts drawn from Europe and the U.S.
