After a 10 year process of evaluation, the European Union (EU) has confirmed that the widely used plasticizers Di-isononyl phthalate (DINP) and Di-isodecyl phthalate (DIDP) pose no risks to either human health or the environment, and are safe to use in an unregulated fashion.
“After such resounding regulatory conclusions from the (EU), downstream users can continue to use DINP and DIDP with the utmost confidence,” Dr. David Cadogan, director of the European Council for plasticizers and intermediates, said.
Phthalates are used primarily to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC) soft and flexible.
