A strike by 5,000 Canadian National Railway workers hit the automotive sector early today, with Ford of Canada confirming that it needed to halt production at three Ontario assembly plants when workers refused to unload railway cars.
About 3,700 workers were sent home from pick-up and minivan plants in Oakville, and a car assembly plant in St. Thomas.
The Canadian Auto Workers, meanwhile, reported that they had also delayed the delivery of truck frames from a Magna plant in Milton, Ont.
The CN workers have been on strike since Friday.
