The purchase of British Columbia-based Quality Colour fills a geographic gap in Clariant Masterbatches Division’s coverage of North America, and gives the company another strong player in the engineering resins concentrates and compounds segment.
Quality Colour, located in Delta, BC, was founded in 1991 and currently employs 40 people. It has four extrusion lines, for a total annual production capacity of 1500 tons. The company primarily focuses on engineering resins, including polycarbonate, PBT, PC/ABS blends, and nylon. It also sells commodity resins compounds and concentrates, including PVC.
"Quality Colour has been an undisputed service leader in western Canada and the northwestern United States," said Thomas Bernhardt, Clariant Masterbatches vice-president and general manager. "Quality Colour’s large proportion of sales in high-performance, engineering resin-based concentrates and compounds is a solid fit with Clariant’s expertise.
"Looking forward, we see numerous opportunities to expand our business activities within this important region."
Clariant Masterbatches has grown significantly in Canada during the past few years. In 2001 the company purchased Action Colour of Oakville, ON. Clariant Masterbatches also has a new, state-of-the-art facility in Toronto with an 8000 sq. ft. color matching laboratory, and a Rapid Response Unit in Lachine, QC.
