BASF to debut specialty plastics unit in October

BASF will introduce its new specialty plastics global unit, Specialty Polymers and Specialty Foams, at Fakuma, an international trade show for plastics processing in Friedrichshafen, Germany held from October 18 to 22.
Specialty Polymers and Specialty Foams will take on responsibility for the following products: Terlux (MABS); Luran S, an acrylic-styrene-acrylonitrile (ASA) resin; Terblend N, a polycarbonate/ acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (PC/ABS) resin; Terluran HH, a specialty ABS resin; and special foams like Basotect melamine foam, and Neopolen (EPP and EPE foams).
Dr. Michael Stumpp will lead the new business unit.<br>
“In combination with these specialties, we provide tailor-made services for many industries like automotive, health and diagnostics or building and construction,” Stumpp said. “These product/service packages lead to innovative solutions that can result in a distinct reduction of system costs.”
At Fakuma, BASF will showcase its Ultraclean Batch, a new product that makes it easy to clean injection-molding screws. Prior to the formation of the Specialty Polymers and Specialty Foams business unit, Ultraclean Batch would have fallen under the umbrella of BASF’s Styrene Plastics Operating Division.
BASF will also exhibit new grades of easy-flowing its Ultradur High Speed resin. These warpage-optimized blends will consist of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and ASA (Ultradur S4090), and PBT/polyethylene terephthalate (PET) blends that havve good surface features (Ultradur B4040).
