Alcan explores selling of food packaging, plastic bottle business

Alcan Inc. (Montreal, Que.) announced it is exploring the potential sale of its Food Packaging Plastic Bottle business. This is part of Alcan’s continuing refocusing of its food packaging activities.
According to Christel Bories, president and CEO of Alcan, the food packaging business is moving strategically to focus more resources on the flexible packaging market where the company sees more growth opportunities.
The Food Packaging Plastic Bottle business serves such markets as juice, food service and retort drink applications. Additionally, the business manufactures hot-fill and cold-fill containers.
The Food Packaging Plastic Bottle business had sales of US$130 million and operates three plants in the United States, one in Canada and one in France. It employs some 495 people.
