BASICS OF EXTRUSION - AGENDA
Registration: 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Seminar: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
OVERVIEW OF TOPICS
This is an outline of a practical extrusion seminar that Allan Griff has presented since 1979, and has been attended by over 4,000
people since then. It is an intensive introduction for people in the extrusion business and is applicable to all types of extrusion processes.
The ten key principles of extrusion, and some basics of plastics chemistry.
Motors, drive systems, speed reduction, screw & barrel, the head zone, instrumentation, and other hardware such as screens and screeners, static mixers and gear pumps
Limits to output rate, how to estimate both in-push and output, and what happens in the various zones of the extruder, the head and the die. Simple practical rheology.
Operation and Troubleshooting
Setting conditions, how controllers work, start-up and shutdown, safety and maintenance. Common problems in extrusion, with suggested solutions and ways to prevent them from happening at all.
