Stratasys buys materials specialist Interfacial Solutions

On the heels of its purchase of two additive manufacturing service providers, 3D printing and additive manufacturing machines maker Stratasys Ltd. has acquired U.S.-based plastics materials specialist Interfacial Solutions LLC.

Stratasys, which has corporate headquarters in Minneaspolis, Minn., and Rehovot, Israel, has been a customer of River Falls, Wis.-based Interfacial Solutions for the past three years.

Interfacial Solutions develops materials and processes, and does low-volume compounding.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

According to Stratasys CEO David Reis, ownership of Interfacial Solutions will help Stratasys become vertically integrated in materials development and manufacturing. “Interfacial Solutions provides significant expertise in plastics and filaments,” Reis said in a statement. “We believe its knowledgeable team and experience will accelerate Stratasys’ materials development efforts for all of our FDM [fused deposition modeling] platforms.”

Last week, Stratasys announced a deal to buy two additive manufacturing service providers, Solid Concepts Inc. of Valencia, Calif., and Harvest Technologies of Belton, Tex. The two firms will operate under Stratasys’ “RedEye” digital manufacturing service business.
