Injection press maker Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has opened a new technology centre at its headquarters in Strongsville, Ohio.

The 8,000-square-foot technology centre is located in separate section of the 120,000-square-foot Sumitomo Demag factory, and houses numerous Sumitomo Demag all-electric, hybrid, and hydraulic machines in clamping forces from 56 to 652 tons.

The centre is meant as a mold trial and technical training resource for customers, John Martich III, COO of the company’s U.S. operations, told Canadian Plastics. “The plastics manufacturing industry is coming back strong after the recession, and it makes sense for us to offer this new demonstration, training, and mold trial service in a single location in the Midwest U.S., the home of the largest population of molders in North America and also in close proximity to Southern Ontario,” Martich said. “In a larger sense, it also represents the continuing integration of Sumitomo Demag as a global company.”
